Strangely enough, something like this has happened with Vietnamese refugees in Israel, though in small numbers:

Do you think that those people who are accepted as immigrants into a country ought to buy into the mainstream culture of that country and not form their own independent "communities"?

I think you know that my opinion is very close to yours on this question. The point I was trying to make was not that large numbers of refugees ought to be accepted today; it was that if a sound immigration policy had been followed over the last 40 years (i.e. small numbers, no welfare benefits, no multiculturalism, deportation for crimes), then it would have been possible to ease the Syrian crisis by accepting larger numbers on a one-time basis.

In other words, by foolishly pretending that economic migrants ought to be granted rights usually reserved for refugees, the West has made it impossible to help genuine refugees. This is not the only piece of lunacy - consider all the funds going to support not millions of refugees, but millions of grandchildren and great-grandchildren of refugees - the so-called Palestinian refugee camps, managed by UNRWA.

In the current situation, I don't think any immigration solution exists.

A lot of Americans seem to be envying Russia their leader these days! Here's an article from GoV.

Excuse me posting so many of these but I do think they're good. This one is mainly about Libya but also applies to Obama's Middle East foreign policy in general.
