Cultural Marxism aims to re-shape British cinema
I am so angry. I have been fuming about this for several hours now, and have decided it is perhaps best to share it on the forum. If nothing else, it'll get it off my chest.
The BFI, the British Film Institute, is one of those organisations which once upon a time would have performed a useful social/cultural role, but which has been totally commandeered by New Left / cultural Marxist androids and now functions as yet another tentacle of the diversity industry. One of the organisation's tasks is to distribute money (garnered I believe from taxpayers and corporate sponsors) to film-makers, thus fostering Britain's film industry.
Now... the BFI has adopted a new policy. I could quote the key, most infuriating, bits from the Telegraph article, but really the whole thing should be read:
British Film Institute tells filmmakers to tick new diversity targets or miss funding
I will quote only one part:
Just the beginning... what on Earth can they be cooking up for us next? Will directors be publicly shamed if they don't cast ethnic minorities? Maybe some kind of black-list? Or perhaps cinemas will get bonus funding if they show loads of ethnic minority films? Maybe the BFI will just cut to the chase and start paying white people to get sterilised, or euthanased? The possibilities are truly endless and I'm sure the nomenklatura at the BFI will surprise us yet.
Film-makers of Britain... comply! You have nothing to lose but your funding.

Amanda Nevill, the CEO of the BFI, said it was “vital” to reflect British society in order to stay relevant and said the announcement “is just the beginning”.

I wonder what they will do about period dramas. It is highly unrealistic to pretend many minorities lived in an 18th century English village.
Will they be financed if they are reaslistic about some of the problems existing in minority cultures? Will there for example be a movie about a sixteen year old forced to marry her cousin?
This seems to be paid twith lottery money and not with taxes. I guess it is their money and they can give it to whomever they want. The British should be aware and not buy their lottery tickets if they do not aprove.

'Purify fiddlesticks'. ends.! said Mrs Squeers...
..'Don't think, young man, that we go to the expense of flower of brimstone and molasses, just to purify them; because if you think we carry on the business in that way, you'll find yourself mistaken, and so I tell you plainly!'

I'm guessing this is the sort of film the BFI are after, and of which we'll be seeing a lot more in the coming years, thanks to their explicit new policy. Here is a precis of the film, Pride:
You couldn't make it up, really. It's everything the champagne Socialist establishment just love - with the obvious exception of Muslims and blacks, but I'm sure they'll solve that somehow with the casting.
UK gay and lesbian activists work to help miners during their lengthy strike of the National Union of Mineworkers in the summer of 1984.

Hahaha! You honestly couldn't make that one up - I'm tempted to go and watch it just to see how they shoehorn in as much left-wing stuff as possible. Shame though that the sort of comments many of those miners would undoubtedly have made at the time regarding homosexuality probably weren't recorded for posterity, eh?

That probably happened actually, though in a more fledgling way to how those type of groups would coalesce today. Still, the gay and associated lobbies weren't exactly brand-new in 1984. We may say they hadn't gained quite as much ground as today, obviously. They had gained enough however.
The Miner's Strike attracted all the dissident groups, even or especially the ones who had no intention of ever descending a mine. Somewhere, at some point in the dispute, there will have been gay lobby support for miners, as there was by feminist groups (budding miners all), the punk rock movement, the anarchists and various others of that ilk.

Brendan O'Neill has written a good piece about this gay/miner film Pride.
